Breast milk provides all of the nutritional requirements for infants in their first six months.

In addition, breastfeeding:

	•	Helps prevent illnesses in infants.
	•	Helps mothers recover from the stresses of pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
	•	Can promote bonding between a mother and her child.
	•	Is often convenient and enjoyable for a mother.

The Lactation Center (TLC) at Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital provides personal, follow-up support from certified lactation consultants. Breastfeeding equipment is available for purchase or rental through TLC.
