Evaluation and treatment are very aggressive during the initial hours of trauma care, eliminating delays. Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital's partnership with AMR (American Medical Response), CALSTAR (California Shock/Trauma Air Rescue) and Mercy Air provides emergency medical transport to the Trauma Center. Because traumatic injury can affect more than just the body, psychiatric specialists, social workers, spiritual care services, discharge planners, and rehabilitation therapists also play an important role in assuring trauma patients' recovery. We are dedicated to injury prevention and to the quality of trauma care and trauma medicine. For each trauma patient admitted, our staff determine whether the injury was preventable, treat patient for preventable factors, and educate the patient about how to remedy risks or avoid those factors. Our Trauma Clinic offers follow-up visits for patients recently under the care of the Trauma Services. We examine the patients' physical injuries and practice wound care. Other clinical concerns are addressed, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and pain-management. The patients' need for consult with medical and rehabilitation specialists may be also evaluated. Trauma Clinic is held every Wednesday morning and is a free visit for all SBCH trauma patients. Trauma Clinic rounds are held daily in the ICU and Trauma Wards. Inpatients on the Trauma Services are discussed. Current treatments as well as a clear care plan are formulated for the patient.
