Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention

Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of traumatic injury, and many crashes are caused by drug or alcohol impairment.

At SBCH, all trauma patients are screened and comprehensively evaluated for such problems. Positive screens are followed by assessment by a Substance Abuse Evaluation Team, which may refer the patient to Cottage's Chemical Dependency Services, or recommend intervention or other appropriate treatment. SBCH has made more than 1,000 interventions.
