Following the 1994 Northridge earthquake, the California Legislature mandated that all hospitals in the state be retrofitted or rebuilt to withstand a 6.0 earthquake. With no local, state or federal funding provided to meet this new seismic requirement, Cottage is reaching out to the community for vital support of our fundraising campaigns.
A long history of wise financial management by the Cottage Board of Directors and the generosity of our community are making possible the rebuilding of Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital, and the retrofitting and expansion of Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital. These acute care medical facilities will serve our communities for decades to come.
In an ambitious effort to raise $100 million in philanthropic support to help construct the new Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, the Campaign for Cottage Health System was launched in 2004, and completed at the end of 2008. The SBCH Foundation is now focusing on new philanthropic priorities to ensure comprehensive high-quality care far into the future.
A $7 million campaign for the Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital project was enthusiastically met by Valley residents and other charitable organizations.
Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital is working with local leaders to formulate a campaign for that project, which began its "quiet phase" in 2009.
