Trauma Education

High quality continuing education courses and conferences are an essential part of our program.

Trauma/Critical Care Symposium

Each July we host the Trauma/Critical Care Symposium in Santa Barbara. Nationally recognized physicians and nurses present the latest medical information to improve trauma and critical care patient outcomes. The 7 hours of continuing education designed for physicians, nurses, therapists and medics, is always on a Friday, leaving the weekend to enjoy Santa Barbara.

Once or twice each year we provide ATLS – Advanced Trauma Life Support, the course that teaches a systematic, concise approach to the early care of the trauma patient. This course is vital to guiding care for the injured patient in emergency department trauma rooms. ATLS course training provides a common language that can save lives in critical situations.

We offer the 2-day course, the ½ day refresher, and the course to qualify instructors.

Twice a year we provide TNCC – Trauma Nursing Core Course. TNCC is the authorized program through the Emergency Nurses Association. ENA developed and implemented the TNCC to standardize the body of trauma nursing knowledge. It is a 16 hour course designed to provide the learner with cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills.

We also provide The TNCC Instructor course to prepare nurses to become TNCC  Instructors. The Instructor course emphasizes appropriate teaching strategies as well as correct evaluation methods.
