Free Respite (Substitute) Care Available for Unpaid Caregivers


If you are a family or friend caregiver in Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo county in need of short term substitute care and are unable to pay privately, we may be able to help.


Short-term respite is available to unpaid
family or friend caregivers who provide
care for:

  • An adult of any age who requires supervision due to cognitive impairment, or
  • An adult aged 60 or older who requires assistance with two or more activities of daily living (eating, dressing, bathing, toileting, walking or transferring to/from bed or chair)
Funds are targeted to those unpaid caregivers who need a break and wouldn't otherwise be able to pay for a substitute caregiver.

Coast Caregiver Resource Center provides information and support to unpaid caregivers of adults with any kind of brain impairment, as well as providing respite care for unpaid caregivers of older adults in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.  Respite funds are provided by the Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens, Area Agency on Aging for Santa Barbara & San Luis Obispo counties and the California Department of Health Care Services.
