2010 Highlights

Received a second Center of Distinction Award at The Center for Wound Management at Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital (GVCH), and expanded these regional services to include a regular wound management clinic at Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital (SYVCH).

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital (SBCH) was named one of two centers in the County for providing Comprehensive Cardiac Care, reflecting its ability to respond to new national standards that call for reducing to 90 minutes or less the time from field to treatment for dealing with the most critical heart attacks.

Formed a partnership with California State University Channel Islands to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in the Santa Barbara area starting in January 2012, and continued to work toward achieving Magnet designation for the nursing program at SBCH, the highest level of recognition that a hospital can receive.

Increased our financial support for the Associate Degree in Nursing program at Santa Barbara City College, a successful partnership in place since 2001, and introduced a Nurse Intern program that allows new graduates to transition to their nurse role via a six-month orientation to Cottage.

Made steady progress at SBCH on the construction of the first two patient pavilions, the diagnostic and treatment pavilion, and the main entrance of the new hospital, while developing a comprehensive Transition Planning process and team for the early 2012 move into the new buildings.

Completed a new patient wing and radiology suite at SYVCH in preparation for 2011 occupancy, and received a Distinctive Workplace Award for exceptional employee satisfaction at the Santa Ynez facility.

Held groundbreaking ceremony, completed complex rock-column drilling for the foundation, and began building the new Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital on Patterson Avenue.

Completed construction of a new “core” lab on Patterson Avenue for Pacific Diagnostic Laboratories where processing from its 13 satellite draw stations throughout the region is now performed.

Named the future workforce homes Bella Riviera, formed a separate organization to handle the project, selected a de.veloper for the long-awaited townhomes, and completed excavation and preparation on the former St. Francis Medical Center site for construction of 115 townhomes.

Made significant progress on our core quality measures (heart, pneumonia, infection, surgical complication); six of them now rank in the national top 10th percentile, and seven qualify for superior CHART rating.
