What’s Happening at SYVCH?

With the new hospital wing nearing completion, Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital (SYVCH) is addressing a critical healthcare need of valley residents—access to high-quality breast care prevention and detection services. The new hospital wing includes a new lab with state-of-the-art digital mammography equipment.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women. The Breast Care Initiative and “Pink Ribbon Campaign” will provide valley residents with access to the latest technology which has significantly improved survival rates in breast cancer patients.

As a kick-off to this initiative, co-chairs Tresha Sell and Gerry Shepherd (pictured) hosted a reception for volunteer leaders of the Pink Ribbon Committee late last year at Imagine Wine Tasting Room and Art Gallery in Santa Ynez.

The reception included an announcement that the Wood-Claeyssens Foundation had provided a leadership donation to the digital mammography program in the form of a challenge grant of $250,000. Since then, the community has responded with gifts and grants totaling more than $160,000 toward the program. The Committee’s goal is to raise the remaining $90,000 needed to fully match the Wood-Claeyssens Foundation challenge grant by December of 2010.
