Letter from the President

As not-for-profit hospital systems like Cottage evaluate the complexities of national health-care reform -- taking into consideration issues of access, quality, cost, value, and reimbursement challenges -- it’s important for us not to lose sight of our long-established mission.

Providing quality health services to our communities and doing so with excellence, integrity and compassion will always be the driving force behind all we do—whether it’s responding to the needs of the 66,000 emergency department patients we see each year, rebuilding each of our facilities to new seismic safety standards, or providing unique regional services for adult and pediatric patients.

As we complete the first decade of this century, we pledge to uphold the legacy of our original founders who recognized—and met—the need for a hospital in Santa Barbara; we’ll listen to others who come to us wanting to preserve valuable health services for our communities in more cost-effective ways; and we’ll continue to put first the needs of our patients, aware of the responsibility we shoulder as the sole provider of acute hospital care in the greater Santa Barbara region.

Thank you for your trust and confidence, and please know that it is our privilege and honor to serve you.
