Pediatric Endocrinologist Joins Cottage Children's Hospital

 

Cottage Children's Hospital announces the addition of Dr. Cristina Candido-Vitto, M.D., a Board-certified pediatric endocrinologist and diabetologist, to the medical staff. Dr. Candido-Vitto will provide hospital consultation services as well as offer a full-time outpatient clinic to the children of the tri-counties region.

 

The arrival of Dr. Candido-Vitto marks the debut of a hospital-based pediatric endocrinology program at Cottage Children’s Hospital. Dr. Candido-Vitto is a pediatric endocrinologist and diabetologist who trained at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Her areas of expertise include the diagnosis and treatment of many endocrinopathies such as diabetes mellitus, growth disorders, early pubertal development, thyroid dysfunction, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal disorders, obesity, insulin resistance, polycystic ovary syndrome and calcium disorders.

 

She has published book chapters in the most recent edition of the American Diabetes Association book “Therapy of Diabetes Mellitus and Related Disorders” which has been a helpful resource for endocrinologists, general practitioners and other health professionals. Apart from her clinical expertise, she has been involved in several research studies, and has acquired several grants, most recently for her project on the assessment of glucocorticoid receptor function in critically ill children.

 

Dr. Candido-Vitto’s office will be a part of the Grotenhuis Pediatric Multispecialty Clinic at 427 W. Pueblo, Suite C, Santa Barbara.
