Awards and Recognitions for Quality of Care

 

Excellence in Clinical Care

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital received the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence in 2007. It is the fourth hospital in California to earn this distinction, which recognizes critical care units that demonstrate high quality standards through exceptional care of patients and their families and offer a creative, supportive and healthy work environment for employees and the medical staff.

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital was awarded the VHA Clinical Performance Improvement Certificate of Recognition for notable improvement in Heart Failure, Heart Attack, and Pneumonia in 2007. See press release here.

Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital's Subacute Unit earned the Hospital Services for Continuing Care Best Practices Award its innovative project called “Work in Pairs,” which resulted in significant reduction in staff injuries.

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital was recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for exemplary organ donation practices. The hospital's organ donation efforts have consistently exceeded national benchmarks for lives saved per donor and number of donations.

 

Patient Satisfaction

Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital received a VHA West Coast Patient Satisfaction Breakthrough award trophy for being a “top performer” in patient satisfaction by achieving the 99th percentile for inpatients and 94th percentile ranking for Emergency Department patients in 2007.

Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital received a VHA West Coast Patient Satisfaction Breakthrough Certificate of Recognition for improving patient satisfaction for Emergency Department patients to the 76th percentile in 2007. See press release here.

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital received a VHA West Coast Patient Satisfaction Breakthrough Certificate of Recognition for improving patient satisfaction for inpatients to the 87th percentile in 2007. See press release here.

 

Employee Excellence

Jan Ingram, RN, Manager of Parish Nursing and the Liberty Tattoo Removal Program, was recognized as a Hospital Hero by the National Health Foundation. At its second annual awards luncheon held in Los Angeles, Jan was selected as one of six recipients from 50 nominees in six counties. Under her dedicated leadership, the Parish Nursing and Liberty Tattoo Removal Programs have provided vital healthcare services in the greater Santa Barbara area through established partnerships with over 40 community-based organizations and local businesses. Both programs previously operated through the St. Francis Medical Center and are currently funded by the St. Francis Foundation.
