Enterostomal therapy focuses on the acute and rehabilitative care of patients with abdominal stomas, draining wounds, fistulae, dermal tissue trauma, and urinary incontinence.


xxET Nurses:
•  identify patients at risk for dermal ulcers and recommend preventive measures
  •  monitor skin care
  •  provide staff education on procedures related to wounds, ostomy, and continence
  provide pre- and post-operative teaching, counseling, and site selection for patients with ostomies
  provide post-operative skin and stoma assessment and management
  select and provide instruction on appropriate pouching techniques
  counsel on the dietary, sexual, and vocational needs of ostomy patients
  assist with the development of bowel training programs for patients experiencing incontinence
  provide patient instruction in intermittent self-catheterization
