The program accepts three categorical residents per year, and is non-pyramidal. Additional preliminary track (non-categorical) positions are offered to individuals seeking one to two years of training prior to entering specialty programs.

General Surgery Application Procedure

Applicants must be senior medical students or graduates of an approved American or Canadian medical school. Resident selections are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). To apply, please submit the standard AAMC application form and specify either Categorical (C-19) or Preliminary (P-18) positions. Completed applications are due on or before December 1. Selected applicants will be invited to Santa Barbara for personal interviews.
