A principios del siglo XIX, el Dr. Constantine Hering fue el primero que usó tejido de animal enfermo para hacer remedios homeopáticos. Él los llamó "nosodes" para distinguirlos de los remedios tradicionales hechos de hierbas y minerales. El Dr. Hering y sus colegas crearon el remedio nosode con el bazo de una oveja infectada. Ellos usaron una preparación homeopática para tratar el ántrax.
