Un factor de riesgo es aquello que incrementa su probabilidad de contraer una enfermedad o condición.

Se conoce muy poco sobre los factores de riesgo para narcolepsia. La narcolepsia parece encontrarse en familias; aproximadamente del 8% al 12% de personas con narcolepsia tienen otro miembro de la familia con la condición.
