Metabolic Syndrome
En Español (Spanish Version)

The metabolic syndrome is not a disease, but rather a group of risk factors for heart disease.

Elevated blood pressure, abnormal lipid levels, large waistline and a high fasting blood glucose level are all risk factors that can make up metabolic syndrome. According to the American Heart Association, metabolic syndrome affects 35% of adults in the United States. It is important to be tested for these risk factors and have them managed because they put you at a higher risk for a number of serious conditions, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.
