Two Pediatric Specialists Join CottageMay 2007 -- Cottage Children’s Hospital welcomes two leading pediatric specialists to the community: pediatric surgeon Dr. Tamir Keshen and pediatric gastroenterologist Dr. Drew Kelts. Dr. Keshen will bring new expertise to the region, focusing on minimally invasive surgery in the chest and abdomen. Trained at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and at Children’s Hospital of Alabama, he has been focusing his practice in St Louis on minimally invasive surgery in both the chest and abdomen, including inflammatory bowel disease, neonatal congenital anomalies, oncology, gastroesophageal reflux disease and pectus excavatum. A qualified researcher and author, his areas of interest include surgical metabolism, innovative minimally invasive surgical techniques, and surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and adolescent obesity. Dr. Kelts will operate a pediatric GI clinic in Outpatient Surgery at SBCH. In the past, Santa Barbara pediatric patients have been referred out of the area for any necessary GI procedures, or had to wait for a specialist from UCLA to come to Santa Barbara. Dr. Kelts, a native of Boston who trained at Duke University, the University of Washington and Harvard University Children’s Hospital and Medical Center, comes to us from Madera where he has been directing the pediatric GI division of Children’s Hospital Central California. Before that, he was in San Francisco, directing subspecialty services including pediatric GI at California Pacific Medical Center.- end - |
