Santa Barbara Children’s Chorus Raises its Voice in Song to Benefit Cottage Children’s Hospital and Youngsters in Need
In an effort to raise community support for the not-for-profit Cottage Children’s Hospital at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, the Santa Barbara Children’s Chorus recently debuted an original song called “Cottage Family,” which will serve as the hospital’s theme song in upcoming advertisements.
“Cottage Family” was performed by the chorus on June 1st during the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon and was broadcast live on KEYT TV Channel 3.
“The children really wanted to share their talents to help critically ill children,” said Steve O’Connor, Artistic Director, of the Santa Barbara Children’s Chorus.
Creating the song combined the talents of the Santa Barbara Children’s Chorus and songwriter and actress Maggie Wheeler, who is co-director of the Golden Bridge Community Choir in Los Angeles. Ms. Wheeler is best known for her role as Janice on the hit TV series “Friends.”
The Children’s Chorus soon will go into a studio to make a recording of “Cottage Family” which will be used to help market the services and care available at Cottage Children’s Hospital.
This year marks Cottage Children’s Hospital’s 22nd anniversary as part of the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon. Each year, the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon fundraiser typically generates hundreds of thousands of dollars to help fund life-saving services for children. Every cent raised from the local telethon goes toward funding services provided by Cottage Children’s Hospital.
This year, the telethon raised more than $454,000 to help treat all infants and children who needed care, regardless of their ability
to pay.
