This workshop is for adult children to help them better understand and work with their aging parents. Mr. Solie will address:
- A change in circumstances: understanding the unique psychology of aging
parents in the last stage of life
- The geriatric gap and how it impacts communication
- The primary psychological developmental tasks of the last phase of life
- Bridging the communication gap
- Successfully navigating the tough choices of aging
- A turn for the worse: understanding and managing the complex issues of changing health in the last stage of life
- Move beyond what’s wrong now to what works
- The “Health Profiler” mind map, a big picture of parents’ health status
- Identify and prioritize what’s working and what needs improvement
David Solie is an author, educator, and speaker in the area of geriatric communication. His book How to Say it to Seniors: Closing the Communication Gap with Our Elders is a landmark text for individuals looking for a better approach to working with their parents and other older adults.
