This day-long conference will present timely issues, some considered controversial, concerning the care of the family and the newborn. The information presented will support changes in the hospital environment to assist the transition to family-centered maternity and newborn care. The focus will also be to enhance "Patients First" in multi-unit care as well as providing perinatal caregivers access to current evidence-based practice and scholars.
Topics include:
- Complementary and alternative therapies used during the child bearing year with Western medicine treatments
- Family-Centered Care
- "Kangaroo care" and its benefits in caring for the baby and family in the neonatal environment
- The "older" gravida and the "younger" gravida
- The journey to becoming a "Baby Friendly" organization
