CPR For Family and Friends: Infant/Child

This course covers CPR and foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) for infants and children up to the age of 8 years. This course is appropriate for parents, babysitters, and any lay person who spends time with children and wants to learn these skills.
This course is based on American Heart Association guidelines and is designed for parents, babysitters, and friends who do not require certification for employment. Participants will receive a course participation card and there is no exam.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the causes and prevention of injury and cardiopulmonary arrest in children
- Demonstrate how to administer CPR and first aid for choking infants and children

- Lecture, video, demonstration, and hands-on mannequin practice
- CPR and FBAO for infants and children under the age of 8

Cancellations will be accepted by phone up to 24 hours prior to the start of the course. Participants who cancel after this time frame or are a no-show* will be charged the full amount. In the event that a course offering is cancelled, enrollees will be notified by phone or mail.
*If you are unable to attend PLEASE contact the Education Department so that your seat may be made available for someone waiting.

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of American Heart Association materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course material, do not represent income to the Association.

HeartSaver: Adult Course
|
|
The HeartSaver AED Adult covers CPR and FBAO (foreign body airway obstruction) for adults and children over the age of 8. This course is appropriate for non-professional caregivers, teachers, and any lay person who wants to learn these skills. Participants will receive a course completion card. This class includes of the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
The courses are based on American Heart Association guidelines designed for the general public. Participants will receive a course completion card. There is an exam.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the AHA "Chain of Survival," including the importance of dialing 9-1-1
- Describe and demonstrate the steps of CPR and relief of FBAO
- Describe and recognize the signs of four major emergencies in adults
- Describe and demonstrate the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
