This conference will provide information on diabetes in children, carbohydrate counting, diabetes management from patients’ perspective, managing hyperglycemia in the hospital, continuous glucose monitoring, health literacy and diabetes.
Course Objectives
The participant will be able to
- State two ways that diabetes affects children and their families
- Estimate carbohydrate content of meals and snacks for ethnic and special diets
- Identify two self management challenges faced by people living with diabetes
- Identify two inpatient care management issues related to hyperglycemia
- Identify two advances in continuous glucose monitoring and verbalize how they may impact future therapy
- Define low health literacy and two ways it impacts self care behaviors
- Participate in interactive learning activity to increase knowledge and skills related to diabetes care
